It is about shaping public understanding in a fast-paced environment defined by social media, constant scrutiny, and declining trust in institutions. How leaders and spokespersons interact with the media can quickly influence public perception and organizational credibility.
This one-day media relations course prepares public safety professionals and government leaders to engage the media with confidence during both routine operations and high-pressure situations. Participants learn how to prepare for interviews, respond strategically to media inquiries, and deliver clear, coordinated messages that reduce risk and build trust.
Through practical instruction and real-world examples, students gain the tools to avoid common interview pitfalls and communicate effectively when it matters most.

In today’s fast-moving media environment, a single interview can shape public perception. This course shares proven strategies, practical tools, and hands-on guidance from an experienced media relations instructor, Nelly Miles. Participants will be prepared to engage the media with confidence and control.
Instructor Nelly Miles brings over 25 years of experience in public safety and crisis communications, including her leadership as Public & Governmental Affairs Director for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. A former forensic scientist turned award-winning strategic communicator, she now oversees operations and strategy at JPC. Nelly has trained leaders nationwide and serves as PR Chair for the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, as well as an active member of IACP.

REGISTRATION TRANSFER POLICY
We understand that things come up for busy public safety professionals. Purchased tickets are transferable to another student, or the registered person may apply the registration fee to another JPC course anywhere in the country within 24 months of the original scheduled course.
COURSE CANCELLATION POLICY
While rare, Julie Parker Communications might need to cancel a scheduled program. We strive to make this decision at least fourteen days before the training date(s) and promptly inform all registered participants. If JPC must cancel a course, your registration fee will be reimbursed. However, please note that JPC cannot be held accountable for any financial losses resulting from cancellations or alterations in travel arrangements.
